John Barany – Boxes


Boxes come in any size and shape. I make boxes because I like the idea of ‘Function’ that would make them useful storage for something small and precious.

There are now tree, er, 3 tree boxes in my six various versions of the evergreens from the Magic Black Forest.  And these I made into boxes because I like the idea of 
‘Function’ that would make them useful storage for something small and precious:  a memory rock from the MBF, a photo from a Saturday family tree plant day, a raven’s or turkey feather, a butterfly, a preserved ladyslipper orchid or grass widow or yellow bell or….
Birch, 5x7-11”, satin lacquer.

“Tree Boxes”

“Red Shoes and Thorns” He who Wears the red shoes, the loud and provocative ones, Must beware of the prickly forest on which he treads.  ~4X8”. Lathe-turned and hollowed this box’s lid is  Threaded so it screws open and shut.  Painted Translucent acrylics on birch.  Shoes are aspen. Signed by jsbarany jsbarany@aol.com  5099495873 $95

The base is birch with a carved and pierced veneer Plate. Size ~7X12”. Each box is ~2X6” and big enough to hold A surprise inside. Finished in polycoat buffed to satin. Foodsafe.
