with Robin Hawley, Textile Artist
Natural, Botanical, Up-cycle, Re-Purpose, Unique, Creative, Therapy, & Artistic, are just a few of the words to describe Renee and Robin’s art.
We have always enjoyed gardening and love to recycle.
Metal has always appealed to Renee. She started with recycling old copper plumbing pieces due to the way it ages in her garden. She soon realized welding was a must for this art form to evolve.
Renee’s sister, Robin’s love of gardening and textiles was a natural complement for the metal art and silk fabric. Metal ‘N Thread was born from this sister duo. Botanical printing on silk and salvage artisters (artist sisters) happily share their craft.
Partial proceeds form Metal ‘N Thread profits this year go back to the Shayla Fund to help kids during their journey with a life-threatening illness. For more information on the Shayla Fund…
Salvaged Metal Art for the Home & Yard
The pictures included here represent just a few of the functional home & yard art pieces Renee creates. Because pieces are made of used parts, they are based on what’s available at the time. The actual finished pieces will be somewhat different than pictured. That also means they are each unique… one of a kind… and yours to enjoy.
Botanical Printing on Silk
Natural Eco Printing on Silk fabric offers me a way to integrate two lifelong passions: fiber art and gardening. I look to nature, wild and cultivated, to transform the vision into reality.
Below are just a few of the results…
Eco printing is a kind of alchemy, as much art as it is science. Several interacting factors influence the final print, producing a unique pattern that is yours alone.
Silk fabric, whether new or recycled vintage, is perfect to receive the imprints and colors of Nature. It is a precise process to harness nature for a beautiful result — harvesting plants, leaves & bushes at just the right time, designing a pattern, and steam. Maybe a little bit more to it, but look at these beautiful results!
