SIGNED AND DATED ORIGINAL FINE ACRYLIC ART
I was born in Bremen, Germany, and moved to the U.S with my parents when I was very young. I grew up in Seattle near Green Lake, a beautiful area. My schooling was in Seattle. I attended Shoreline College to receive a degree in Early Childhood Education. I also attended the University of Washington, majoring in education, specifically in linguistics and minoring in art education.
Art was always important to me. Creative ways of teaching young children occupied close to thirty years of my life. My natural ability in art, as well as my formal art education played a big role in how I taught the children from age four to seven over the years. I was married during this time and have a wonderful family.
After retirement there has been more time for personal growth in artwork, as well as time for travel.
Most of my inspiration for art, specifically painting, comes from the nature around us; the vast outdoor sceneries I’ve seen and experienced, in Washington state and touring through many of the U.S. states, as well as many visits to Canada and many European countries. I love walking through cities and the contrast of small villages, but also love walking through the forests with lakes, rivers, and mountain areas with beautiful foliage, and then the contrast of the impressive ocean beaches of the world with such amazing sea life.
Then, when I’m home, I cherish my family, friends and familiar surroundings, especially my garden with the colorful trees and flowers I planted.
My painting style has developed into a combination of realism, impressionism and sometimes whimsical.
I like to make happy, fun or soothing art. There is already so much sadness and darkness in this world, I don’t use those themes. When I put art pieces on my walls at home, I like them to give me and others pleasure.
I’m often experimenting with different colors, hues and values. I use mostly acrylic paint, however also use some watercolor, pastels, and do some photography.
My studio and gallery are in half of our retirement home in Terrace Heights, Yakima, WA. I participate in the Tour of Studios in Sept. and may have an Open House a couple times a year. I am a member of Yakima Valley Art Association, Larson Gallery, Gallery One in Ellensburg, NOAPS – National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Association, and display paintings in The Boxx Gallery in Tieton during the Shrub Steppe theme in the Fall.
