Birds! We all love ’em. Whether they twitter and tweet, cackle and chirp, screech and scold, or just warble and coo, there’s always something attractive and endearing. Mythology from cave drawings, Egypt, Greece, middle ages, first nations through to the 21st century is replete with bird stories. My birds all have personalities I’ve tried to carve and paint into their expressions, stance, feathers, colors.
They’re all done in wood with rotary and hand tools, airbrushed acrylics, dyes, waxes. All have clear coats of lacquer that should allow damp washrag cleaning. The legs and toes are steel wire wrapped in kite string.

You’ve heard them the forest: chatter-chatter- chatter, caw-caw-caw. They’ve always got something to say, a bone to pick, advice to advertise, an argument to punctuate. And when they do, they say it with more or less gesticulation, up on their toes, tongue out, feathers down in adamant defense.
Metaphors galore here. The cardinal caringly watches over his progeny potential. But in real 21st century life, Man holds the key to the Card’s life and that of his young.
